One base unit per family

Everything meets in the middle

Each family has a base unit — the metre, kilogram, second, byte and so on. Your value is first converted to the base, then out to the target unit.

Temperature gets its own math

Celsius, Fahrenheit and Kelvin share no simple factor, so they convert through the Celsius scale with exact offsets and slopes.

Decimal or binary storage

Data units come in both flavours — KB/MB/GB use powers of 1000, KiB/MiB/GiB use powers of 1024 — so drive sizes and OS reports both make sense.

Unit converter FAQ

Does the converter upload my numbers?

No. Every conversion is calculated in JavaScript on your device. Nothing you type is sent to a server, stored, or logged.

Why do gigabyte and gibibyte give different answers?

GB, MB and KB use decimal powers of 1000, while GiB, MiB and KiB use binary powers of 1024. Storage drives are usually sold in decimal units; operating systems often report the binary ones.

Which volume units does it use?

Metric units plus the US customary set — teaspoons, tablespoons, cups, fluid ounces, pints, quarts and gallons. Note the US gallon differs from the imperial one.
